Myst Worlds Interview: Community Manager Kha'tie (on her trip to the European Myst IV Revelation Press Event)

Jenny: Hi I'm talking to Kha'tie who, as most of you know, is one of our awesome Ubisoft Community Managers. Thank you for letting me interview you Kha'tie.

Kha'tie: Jenny thanks for doing this! I really love working together with you and other Community members to make sure everyone knows all the fun things happening in the Myst Worlds.

Jenny: You recently went to Europe on behalf of Ubisoft can you tell us where you went and why?

Kha'tie: Sure, I went to Paris France to take part in the European Press Event there on July 8th.

Jenny: Was this Paris Press Event directed to all Europe or just France?

Kha'tie: All of Europe. Press members from France, The Netherlands, Germany, and England were there (and probably more I just can't remember all the countries). All in all there were at least 60 members of the European Press there.

Jenny: Wow! That is impressive. Is this Press Event equivalent to the United States E3?

Kha'tie: No not at all. Europe doesn't have one big Exhibition like North America does. But in August in Germany there is a big Electronics convention and we'll have some representation there. Stay tuned to Myst Worlds to read more about that!

Jenny: We will definitely look forward to hearing more about that. Can you tell us a little bit about what happened at the Press Event?

Kha'tie: What happened on the 8th in Paris was a small, cozy, formal press event where members could interview the Myst IV Revelation Development Team, and Rand Miller was there as well. I was asked to join and help demonstrate as well as represent the fan base there. Well, the day began with a half-hour panel discussion, with Genevieve Lord (Producer), Patrick Fortier (Creative Director/Lead Game Design), Mary DeMarle (Writer), Jack Wall (Music) and Rand Miller (Atrus/CEO Cyanworlds). It was hosted by Judit Barta who is the Brand Manager for Myst in Europe. Judit introduced the day, asked the panel questions, and showed us some cool videos.

Jenny: So you demonstrated Revelation for them?

Kha'tie: Yes, I was one of the people available to give a personal demo of the game if any press member wished it. Afterward, each of the panel was available for interviews, while I gave demos or answered questions. I also talked to some long-time fans about what it's like to work for Ubisoft and work with members of Cyan, too. That was fun! The best part was meeting "Laloona", who is a fan from Germany I've heard of but never met ... she was great to chat with!

Jenny: How was Revelation received? Did they seem enthusiastic?

Kha'tie: They were very enthusiastic and seemed impressed with the graphics and the music especially. They really loved all the attention to detail, and the new perks like the in-game journal and the camera.

Jenny: Many are wondering what exactly was said in the Paris Press Event and if there are any English Translations posted anywhere?

Kha'tie: Well, most of it has been printed up in the news stories in the magazines or newspapers represented that day. I noticed that most of the press created a unique angle from which to report on the game. Like, the BBC did the "Sex Appeal" of games angle. I guess if you Google for Myst IV Revelation you'll be able to find the stories as they come out, between now and the game's release. We also plan to put up a Press Page for Revelation on MystWorlds.com.

Jenny: You mentioned speaking to Laloona, a fan from Germany. Was the Event open to the general public also?

Kha'tie: No it was not. I actually asked Judit to allow a few members of the fan community from Europe to be there, just like we did for E3 with CAGraywolf and Srikandi. Kristina "Laloona" won a contest on the German website to attend, and we had Gregory "Aloys" there from France, and Marcel "MPaans" from the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the UK fans I invited couldn't make it.

Jenny: That must have been very exciting for you. I know one of the main roles for a Community Manager is community-building.

Kha'tie: It was so exciting Jenny - I feel so blessed every day to have this job! I feel like the community builds itself and I just get to lend encouragement and reward to that, whenever I can!

Jenny: Any new tidbits…?

Kha'tie: Judit gave us a sneak listen to the song Peter Gabriel wrote just for Revelation! That was cool.

Jenny: I would have loved to hear that. I really like Peter Gabriel. Kha'tie, I have some questions about the Event setting too. Some of the pictures showed a neat stained glass window and a library type setting. It was very Myst-like. Where was that? Is there a picture of the outside of the building?

Kha'tie: The outside of the building is very unassuming! Like so many buildings in Paris, the facade is very ordinary-looking and gives little clue about what lies inside. Once you walk through the front gate, there is a small parking lot, then the beautiful spacious building you saw in pictures, then a quaint garden in the back with a balcony overlooking it, where we had many of the interviews take place. All in all it was a perfect spot! The room with the stained glass was one room where there were 6 PCs and 3 Macs set up for the demonstrations.

Jenny: So it was the perfect setting for the demo than.

Kha'tie: It really was. I loved the oversized fireplace especially! Wanted to crawl inside and find a puzzle.

Jenny: As you know many of us want to devour every little detail about Revelation from storyline to box art. I have some questions regarding various aspects of Revelation. Do they have the box art finalized yet?

Kha'tie: I heard that there are a few designs and that the boxes will probably be different in US and Europe, just like they were for Uru and the expansion packs. I haven't seen a final box but I've seen two of the early designs and I actually like them both!

Jenny: You mentioned that Europe and US differ - will Europe get the DVD case type container, and will the US get the small box container that Uru and CC came in? Will the box have a front flap like the first Uru box had?

Kha'tie: I'm not sure what the final design will be. Ask me closer to the release date; I might know more then.

Jenny: I'll hold you to that.

Kha'tie: Eeek!

Jenny: Do you know if there will be a Collector's Edition of the game? If so, for what countries, and will it be released at the same time as the regular version?

Kha'tie: I have heard there will be a Collector's Edition and I am not sure what countries it will be in. The French Ubisoft site has the CE listed there so we can probably count on Europe having one. No word as yet on a CE for the North American market. I am also not sure if it will be released at the same time as the regular edition, but will keep you posted on that too!

Jenny: Thanks! Will there be a Prima Strategy Guide for Revelation?

Kha'tie: Last I heard that was in the works so I suspect yes to that one.

Jenny: Good I know many of the fans like to not only collect the guides but some use it too.

Kha'tie: Well, the great thing about Revelation is the help system which you can opt to use as well - so you won't ever feel stuck or stymied.

Jenny: Is it like the Myst help system?

Kha'tie: It's better.

Jenny: So it just keeps improving.

Kha'tie: Yes the Revelation Development Team has learned from the past successes but has also listened to what the fans wish for, and tried to incorporate the best into Revelation. Most of the Development team are Myst fans, or Riven fans, or both. So they knew what worked, and why, and what would be better, especially as technology advances.

Jenny: I think that having the fans actually developing Revelation is going to lead to an awesome Myst Product. I'm very excited and looking for its release.

Kha'tie: Yes, from what I have seen so far I absolutely agree.

Jenny: Is there any chance of having such things as tee shirts, mouse pads, mugs etc. available at the UBI Myst store? What about Posters, art prints, post cards even, with Revelation art on them?

Kha'tie: If you want something specific, you should write to the store at Ubi and ask. The more requests we get the more consideration we can give it.

Jenny: Thanks for the heads up on that. I hear that there will be a special treat for fans at Mysterium? Can you confirm this?

Kha'tie: Yes, there will be. Ron and I wanted to do something special for fans... and we got them a gift I think they will enjoy. Also, we're giving some prizes to the Committee for draws and contests.

Jenny: That is really awesome of you and Ron. I'm sure I can speak for the Community when I say Thank you for all you do for this Community.

Kha'tie: I want to say a big your welcome to the community but also THANK YOU. Without the enthusiasm and passion of every member of the community Ron and I would have very boring jobs, if our job even existed! Working in the Myst Community is the best job I've ever had and gets more exciting every day. So thank YOU Jenny, and everyone reading, for making this job so fulfilling and rewarding each day!

Cyan recently opened a new Until Uru shard! What did you do?

I have been in UU since it began and never left.
I rushed out to reinstall Uru and get into D'mala!
I am planning to install and join the others in the cavern, soon.
I am waiting to see what comes of this news...
